What Is World Pool Betting? A MyWinners Guide

Learn what World Pool betting is, how commingled pools work and why bigger pools mean better value when you bet the biggest race days with MyWinners.

Written by Rob Lawson

If you have bet on Royal Ascot, the Epsom Derby or another major international meet through MyWinners, there is a good chance your bet went into the World Pool. This guide explains what World Pool betting is, how it works and what it means for your bottom line.

What Is World Pool?

World Pool is a global pari-mutuel betting initiative run by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). On selected race days, it combines betting liquidity from more than 25 countries and territories into one shared pool per bet type.

Instead of your bet sitting in a small local pool, it joins money from customers betting the same race in the UK, Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa and beyond. Everyone who bets into the pool gets paid from the same pot at the same dividend, no matter where in the world they placed the bet.

World Pool launched at Royal Ascot in 2019 in partnership with Ascot Racecourse and the UK Tote, and it has expanded every year since.

How Does Commingling Work?

Commingling is the process behind World Pool. It merges bets of the same type from every participating jurisdiction into a single global pool for that bet.

  • A win bet placed with MyWinners joins every other win bet placed worldwide on that race.

  • An exacta bet joins every other exacta bet worldwide.

  • A trifecta bet joins every other trifecta bet worldwide, and so on.

Each bet type stays in its own separate pool, but the money inside that pool is shared globally. Once betting closes, all the money in the pool is combined, deductions are made and winning tickets share what is left, at the same dividend everywhere.

Why World Pool Benefits MyWinners Bettors

  • Bigger pools, more stable odds. Most World Pool race days handle upward of HK$300 million (around $38 million). Your own bet does not move the price the way it might in a thin domestic pool.

  • Fairer prices. Money from more than 25 jurisdictions produces odds that reflect genuine global opinion, so last-minute price swings are rarer.

  • Stronger exotic payouts. In a thin local pool, your own winning trifecta or superfecta ticket can drag the dividend down. In the World Pool, your ticket barely registers, so longshot combinations pay closer to what they are actually worth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the World Pool in horse racing?
